Lawlessness

Lawlessness is a lack of law, in any of the various senses of that word. Lawlessness may describe various conditions.

Examples

Lawless conditions include anarchy, looting, rioting, organized crime, dacoity, banditry, authoritarian repression, pogroms, and other forms of violence and social unrest.

In the history of China, when lawlessness occurs, it is a divine symbol that the government, and especially the Emperor, has lost the Mandate of Heaven that justifies obedience to the authorities.

Cardinal André Vingt-Trois (1942-2025) of the Roman Catholic Church warned in 2013 that approval of Same-sex marriage in France would "lead to a more violent society," which didn't happen in the 12 years prior to his death.[1]
