Leon Patitsas (Greek: Λέων Πατίτσας; born February 1976). He is a Greek shipowner and founder of the shipping company Atlas Maritime. According to Forbes, Atlas Maritime is the 17th largest shipping company in Greece, with assets worth $1.8 billion (Forbes, June 2024 list of top 50 Greek Shipowners).[1]

Atlas’ fleet is well-diversified and includes crude oil tankers, product tankers, PCTCs (Pure Car and Truck Carriers), and gas carriers. The vessels operate under long-term lease and charter contracts with major global energy and trading companies including ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Shell, BP, and Trafigura.[2]

Leon was born in London, UK, and raised in Athens, Greece. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, Boston, earned in 1997 and a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earned in 2004. [3]

Biography

Leon Patitsas was born in London in February 1976. Leon is the son of Marigo Lemos, daughter of the 1970s–1980s shipowner Captain Leon C. Lemos (1913–1989), and Spyros Patitsas (1933–2017), an electrical engineer (B.Sc., Toledo, Ohio).

Leon began his early education at the Moraitis School in Athens and later attended Campion High School, also in Athens.[4]

Personal life

In 2006, Patitsas began dating Marietta Chrousala, a Greek fashion model and TV presenter. They married on 5 June 2010, and have three children together.

Their wedding party took place aboard the Greek cruiser Georgios Averof, a famous war memorial, causing a scandal regarding how permission could have been granted for such an event.[5]

In 2013, Patitsas bought a loft apartment in New York City for $5.5 million.[6]
